Priorities

Preserving what you love about Farmington Hills

I will enthusiastically work to preserve what residents love about Farmington Hills such as available green spaces. 81% of residents say having open spaces or parkland where they live is very or extremely important. It is also vital to protect and improve amenities for all our community, including the variety of services and recreational opportunities for our seniors. I will strongly support our excellent public safety and encourage increased community outreach and communication with residents.

Activating a vision for the future

We have an opportunity to move Farmington Hills forward in an exciting direction. New, livable developments should be encouraged that are attractive to a diverse community including young families. Empty office parks will be re-imagined. This will include new dining and shopping destinations that are needed in the city. It is also important that we retain green spaces and connect the city together with more sidewalks, trails and paths, including more dog-friendly paths and parks. Reversing the trend, more young people and families will choose Farmington Hills.

Promoting financial prosperity

It is important that residents have confidence in how every tax dollar is spent. Currently there is a $4m overspend that is depleting the city’s savings. New revenues are needed, and some common sense. New attractive developments will generate new income. Start-up businesses will be incubated. I will work with community members, business owners, the Economic Development Corporation and, together with State and government offices, we will generate new investments and jobs for Farmington Hills.

Addressing our power outage issues

Many of the electric circuits in Farmington Hills have below average reliability in the area served by DTE Energy. Residents still experience too many clear weather outages and equipment failures. Tree-trimming can only somewhat improve the situation before infrastructure improvements are required to reduce the impact of extreme events. 43% of Farmington Hills residents plan to purchase an electric vehicle in the next 5 years, thereby increasing the demand and reliance upon our electric grid. I will work to keep DTE accountable to establish a measurable, continuous improvement process that will report and deliver the needed reliability.

Meet Jon

I’m Jon Aldred. I’ve been a Farmington Hills resident for over two decades. My wife Heather and I have two adult children who were raised in this wonderful community.

As a seasoned leader in a global engineering company (HBK), I have spent my career addressing complex problems and coaching teams to their fullest potential in order to create effective solutions.

Involved in the local community, in 2022 I was appointed to the Innovation, Energy and Environmental Sustainability committee for the city of Farmington Hills. I'm familiar with city business through regular attendance at council meetings and study sessions. I am also on the pastoral leadership team and the board of a local church.

As a council member, I will apply a data-driven, people-centric approach to move Farmington Hills forward as a safe and enjoyable place to live, work and raise a family.

Vote for Jon Aldred on November 2nd

Let's keep Farmington Hills a safe and enjoyable place to live, work and raise a family.
